Today, in an article posted by the BBC, it was reported that a German hunter, paid $60,000 (£39,000) for the legal murder of a large elephant in legal Zimbabwe hunt. The identity of the hunter has not been revealed but that may not be too difficult, especially since this kill is rapidly going viral infuriating animal rights activists around the world. Sadly, canned hunting and trophy hunting have been going on for a very long time. When Cecil The Lion was murdered by dentist, Walter Palmer, the world was horrified. Was Cecil’s murder the wake-up call human beings needed to put an end to this madness? Apparently, not! It was announced this week that Palmer would not face charges and now another majestic being has been mercilessly killed. In the article, the Zimbabwe Association of Safaris Operators (Zaso) said, “the elephant was the largest seen in Zimbabwe in 100 years. Its tusks, which were so large they almost touched the floor, weighed 120lbs (55kg).” Canned hunting is a legal and fast-growing business in South Africa. Canned hunting also is legal in many other parts of the world, including the United States. Canned hunting facilities offer customers the opportunity to kill exotic and native animals trapped within enclosures. Canned hunting is actually frowned upon and not supported by most hunters. Yet, there are some people who will pay a great deal of money to kill animals in canned hunts. “Currently, there is no law nationally or internationally that protects the white lions from being wiped off the face of the earth.” -Global White Lion Protection Trust. In this video, author and environmentalist, Linda Tucker, founder of Global White Lion Protection Trust, asks for your help to ban canned hunting globally. White lions as well as many other exotic animals are being hunted in canned hunts as trophies or for fun. Will humans stop destroying all life on this planet or will we continue until our own species is extinct? All proceeds go to LionAid.org, a reputable charity who truly fight to change the laws.
