On 15 March 2016, consumer groups around the world will join together to tackle a major international public health crisis. Consumers International and our Members are calling on the world’s largest fast food companies to make global commitments to stop serving meat from animals routinely given antibiotics used in human medicine.  The overuse of antibiotics is creating highly resistant superbugs. Without urgent action, we are heading for a post-antibiotic era, in which important medicines stop working and common infections and minor injuries can once again kill. Around 50% of the world’s antibiotics are used in agriculture. With almost 100,000 restaurants worldwide, McDonald’s, Subway and KFC are in a position to use their huge buying power to make a big difference to the global supply chain.  Download our World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2016 Resource Pack below (available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic) for more information about the issue of antibiotic resistance and how you can get involved in our campaign. Download all your WCRD 2016 resources here in English, French, Spanish and Arabic. Please use the following tools to help us spread the word: Our report 'Antibiotics Off the Menu' finds the response from global fast food companies, McDonald's, Subway and KFC to be 'woefully inadequate' when tackling antibiotic resistance.  The report presents the findings of a letter writing campaign, launched at CI's World Congress, in which 19 CI Members participated.  Download the report below in English, Spanish and French.  Help us to amplify our message to get #AntibioticsOffTheMenu! It's quick and easy and means we can all release our message together on 15 March 2016.  Click on the box below to add your name. Read our Thunderclap Guide (available for download below in English, French, Spanish and Arabic) for full information on how to add your support.  Take a picture with the logo clearly displayed in front of your local fast food chain, stuck over fast food packaging or at a local/national landmark so we can tell where in the world you are. Send us your photos on social media by tagging @Consumers_Int on Twitter and using #AntibioticsOfftheMenu. Download our logo here. Use our template letter to write to the fast food chains in your country telling them why we want them to commit to a global agreement to stop the routine use of antibiotics.
