For more than 30 years, Bob Cannard has been the visionary behind 140 acres of highly diversified, natural process farmland at Green String Farms; as well as the Green String Farm Institute, an educational nonprofit offering internships to young farmers seeking to learn from the farm’s methods. Living and growing by the motto, “50% for humans, 50% for nature,” Green String provides a seasonal and diverse range of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and other staples such as olive oil, all exemplifying Bob’s standard of "etheric sweetness" to long-term partners such as Chez Panisse Restaurant, as well as its own farmstand in Sonoma County. In an intimate evening of conversation over a stew featuring Green String produce, Bob will deliver a master class, providing an in-depth tutorial on soil and related ecological systems, including ways urban farmers and beginning gardeners can easily impact soil health, leading to broad-based benefits for communities and living systems. Ticket price includes a bowl of stew. There will be a cash bar. Soil 101 is the first in a series of stories and conversations curated and presented by The Edible Schoolyard Project’s Social Eats and OPENrestaurant.
